UP Pheonix Sub getting an upgrade? Ive been seeing a lot of MOW equipment at the siding in tempe next to the tempe town lake bridge. Any updates would be appreciated, to see if this is just scheduled maintanance, storage for MOW equipment or something more important.

Hello!
I will see if I can find any information out.

I do know that starting in 2022, UP starts a new contract with Knight/Swift that is Phoenix Based that is currently on the BNSF https://www.railfanaz.com/index.php/topic,5992.0.html.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it.  I have noticed a few new antennas have gone up around the area as well which could also be PTC (as of right now PTC is not on the Phoenix Sub).

If Amtrak starts coming to Phoenix from Tucson by 2025, that would require PTC to be installed.  So we will see what happens or it could be just MoW maintenance.  :)

I've noticed that MOW equipment as well, Wavy, so you aren't the only one.

As far as I know, the searchlights from the Southern Pacific days will be getting replaced sometime next year as well, don't know anything else yet.

Well..  Bad News...  My contact told me that just recently they took away the ability to see what MoW projects that are going on.  Good News, listening to them as they work in Magna Jct and Queen Creek, they were testing some "track circuits".  Not sure what that means, however, they were letting DS know they may see something on their end... Not sure what that means..
