I ran one of those intermodals on Friday night.  I'm pretty sure it was all manifest cars, lol.  And Jake is right on about the magma local getting the axe.  On Friday night/Saturday morning the MTUPX and the MPXTU both worked the local's industries.

Awhile back, a Shippers group filed a lawsuit or something to that effect against the UP stating that they were not doing their "due diligence" in hauling freight and were more interested in cutting and getting rid of traffic.

In response, UP "opened" up a bunch of new Intermodal lanes but from what I have heard, it is more of a "lip-service" than anything else!

Some of these new "I" trains have no Intermodal at all or just maybe a car or two. Also I guess most of the destinations do not even have an Intermodal ramp!
UP can respond that they offered the service, if there was no business, Oh well!

I have no idea if these IKCPX trains have any Intermodal cars or not?  I'm sure they eliminated the M train symbol and now combine everything on these new I trains.

Quote from: Jakesiegel_3 on March 29, 2020, 02:22:34 amIt is not an intermodal to Phoenix unfortunately. It's a new symbol that brings intermodal to Santa Teresa and Port of Tucson, with autos for Phoenix. They drop off the intermodal at those 2 locations and then come to Phoenix with autos and usually pick up manifest cars at Picacho. Also magma was officially abolished. Now UP runs an MTUPXB and MPXTUB. Pretty much the same thing, but no longer considered a local or hauler symbol.

Thanks @Jakesiegel_3!

More info next.

It is part of their plan to show shippers they have opened Intermodal Lanes in more areas.  That is pretty much all I can say about it.
