Sunset Route closed due to geyser
« on: October 04, 2018, 09:31:37 pm »
Per another train site:  UP has closed the Sunset Route at MP 662.5 at Wister, CA due to a geyser  collapsing into a sink threatening both main lines. A shoe fly is being built with possible service restored in 48 hours.

Wow!  That is some sink hole.  I would guess UP is using a shoe fly for both main lines?  Any idea on plans for the future on this area?

Thanks for Sharing and any insight you can bring.

Yes I think the shoe fly was already built but wasn’t connected when this happened; they had been preparing for it. I’ve been working Tucson and am again tonight but I’ll work Yuma tomorrow. I’ll see what I can find out for ya.

Nice Coverage.  Thanks for Sharing.  Probably hear you on the audio feed tonight.  Thinking of going out tomorrow, will this slow down traffic or might be busy for Saturday?

Thanks for the additional information.  Hope they can figure out a plan for the future.

Ugh what a nightmare the Yuma sub was last night for dispatcher 244, that’s me tonight so I hope it’s somewhat cleaned up.  They have built 2 shoo flies; one from mt1 to mt2 and one off mt2 so it is still double track.  Wish me luck.
